With "LIVE LIKE THIS!", Camera Austria is presenting the first major solo exhibition of the Austrian artists, Sabine Bitter and Helmut Weber, who have already carried out important international projects and taken part in key exhibitions worldwide.Since 1993, Vienna and Vancouver based artists Sabine Bitter and Helmut Weber have cooperated on projects addressing urban geographies, architectural representations and related visual politics. Dealing with architecture as a frame for spatial meaning, the works of Bitter/Weber are at the interface of architecture, new media technologies, and systems of representation.
Taking up the title of a 2001 project, the exhibition presents a cross-section of projects by the two artists from recent years. "LIVE LIKE THIS!" creates a space for engaging with contemporary urban spaces as social environment and as political discourse. At the same time, it also creates a space for debating contemporary image politics as a cluster of visual practices for organising society and constructing the public sphere and history. As a result, the relationships between architecture, visuality and representation, mediatization, politics and identity are reallocated in the exhibition space.
To accompany the exhibition there will be published a comprehensive publication (Germ. / Engl.) featuring an introduction by Reinhard Braun, texts by Catherine David, Neil Smith and Jeff Derksen, as well as an artists' talk with Bik Van der Pol, Ken Lum, Andrea Geyer, Jayce Salloum, Marina Gr?ini?, David Thorne and Julia Meltzer (Speculative Archive); Graphic by Pascale Willi /www.nextext.us
